E-waste (computers, printers, modems, TVs)
Electronic waste (e-waste) must not go in your household landfill or recycling bins. Batteries and printer cartridges must be removed before disposal.
Disposal options

- Look for businesses that accept both working and non-working computers and equipment to reuse or recycle:

- E-waste is accepted for free as part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme. Limit of 15 items per person (a keyboard, mouse and monitor equals one item). Remember to remove batteries and printer cartridges before recycling. Drop off locations include:
Acceptable items
- Televisions
- Computers and servers
- Laptops including power adaptors and cables
- Computer accessories including keyboards, mouse, headphones, web cams
- Circuit boards (Limit of 20 for A4 size or smaller, and maximum 10 for up to A2 size)
- Networking devices including modems, routers, switches, access points
- Tablets and iPads including chargers
- Mobile phones including chargers
- Monitors and screens including stands and cables
- Streaming devices and accessories.
- Remote controls (remove batteries)
- Printers (remove cartridges/toner)
- Gaming consoles: games, CDs, DVDs
- Cameras: digital and web cameras (remove batteries if possible)
- Smart home devices
- Electrical cables and cords
Unacceptable items
- Any electronic devices not listed under accepted
- Batteries and power banks
- Portable powered devices
- Bluetooth speakers
- Vapes and e-cigarettes
- Cordless personal grooming devices
- Electrical appliances (kettles, heaters, blankets, coffee makers)
- Electric toys
- Light globes or tubes (fluorescent or LED)
- Smoke detectors
- Thermostats and thermometers
- Recycle old mobile phones, smart watches and related accessories that are no longer usable or have no resale value through Mobile Muster at telecommunications stores in the ACT.
- Officeworks no longer accepts general batteries in-store. Visit the B-cycle website for local drop-off points. Officeworks also offer a tech trade-in program for items like mobile phones, smart watches, and laptops with embedded batteries. Check what you can recycle through their Bring It Back program at Officeworks Recycling.
- Apple recycles its own products for free through the Apple GiveBack program.

- Printer cartridges can be recycled at Cartridges 4 Planet Ark drop off points such as Officeworks.

Why?
E-waste contains valuable materials like aluminium, gold, silver and copper that can be extracted for reuse. This reduces the need for extracting new raw materials. Mobile Muster recovers 99% of materials from mobile phones.
