Bookings

Single residential households can use the bulky waste booking form to book a collection up to 9 months in advance.

The form will check your eligibility, give you collection dates to choose from and ask what items you would like collected. Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive a reference number and confirmation email or text message. You can make changes to your booking up until 5 days before collection using the request service status form. See the check status user guide (PDF 285.6 KB) for help.

If you live in an apartment or townhouse with shared waste, you will need to contact your body corporate or building manager to make a booking on your behalf.

Prepare for a bulky waste collection

You must place your items within your property boundary and in an easily accessible spot. Items left in garages, trailers, or behind gates or fences will not be collected.

Place items out no more than 48 hours before the scheduled collection date and no later than 7 am on the collection day. You do not need to be home for the collection.

Uncollected items

We have 2 bulky waste trucks, one for reusable or recyclable items and one for landfill waste. They may arrive at different times on the same day, which means your items may not be collected at the same time.

Items not acceptable for the bulky waste collection are your responsibility.

Illegal dumping fines may apply for items outside your property boundary. Report illegal dumping via Fix My Street or call Access Canberra on 13 22 81.

Apartments and townhouses

If you live in an apartment or townhouse with shared waste, you will need to complete the resident application form (PDF 600.9 KB) and then contact your body corporate or building manager to make a booking on your behalf.

If you are a strata manager or managing agent for a multi-unit development, you can book a bulky waste collection in 4 steps.

Booking a collection

  1. Get residents to complete the resident bulky waste application form (PDF 600.9 KB) so you can book on their behalf.
  2. Check your next available collection date using the multi-unit developments bulky waste booking form. Each complex has one scheduled collection date available for each quarter of the financial year.
  3. Once you have collected the resident application forms, submit the multi-unit developments bulky waste booking form. You may be contacted to discuss a collection location at the building.
  4. Inform residents of the collection date so they can prepare for collection.

How to nominate a collection point

Strata managers can nominate a collection point within the complex. Please choose somewhere that is accessible for trucks to collect the goods, such as a parking lot or kerbside. The contractor will only contact strata managers if the collection point listed on the booking form is not suitable.

  • Basement or underground carparks are not suitable collection points.
  • Items need to be placed within the property boundary by 7 am on the morning of the collection date.
  • Residents can place items out up to 48 hours before the scheduled collection time. Before this time they must remain within the resident’s home or garage.
  • Items should not be stored in public areas prior to the collection service unless the complex permits this and has space to store items safely.
