The weather forecast this week is partly cloudy. Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.

Belconnen

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program is underway with mowing in Charnwood, Cook, Macquarie and Weetangera. The chemical treatment of laneways is also underway.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct a prescribed burn at Pinnacle Reserve over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but are asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire. Crews will also be undertaking pre-burn works at the Uriarra Station prescribed burn site.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Aikman Drive, Ginninderra Drive and Haydon Drive
    • mowing along Haydon Drive, College Street and Eastern Valley Way
    • path maintenance in Spence
    • road resealing on Luke Street in Holt and the intersection of Lathlain Street and Cohen Street in Belconnen.
  • Sportsgrounds: Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are closed for maintenance and will reopen on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
  • Swimming areas: Bimbi and Bargang beaches on Lake Ginninderra are closed for swimming due to bacteria alerts. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
  • Trees: Crews will be:
    • responding to jobs in Belconnen, Giralang and Kaleen
    • planting 17 Callistemon at Dawn Crescent in Lawson to replace recently planted Eucalyptus cinerea that would have had a negative impact on grassland species identified in the area
    • watering young trees.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • laneways in Dunlop, Higgins and Scullin
    • shops in Belconnen
    • urban open space in Belconnen, Dunlop, Evatt and Higgins.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:

  • Gundaroo Drive duplication:
    • Works under the bridge and on the shared path are complete however the path remains closed until landscaping is complete.
    • Landscaping and grass establishment is ongoing.
    • The project is expected to be completed in May 2025.
    • The bus stops have been relocated and are open for use.
    • The speed limit remains at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure worker safety.

Central Canberra

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Chemical treatment of Blackberry and St John’s Wort is taking place at Red Hill.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program is underway with mowing in Kingston and Yarralumla.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program:
    • Black Mountain
    • O’Connor Ridge Tip
    • O’Connor Ridge (Dryandra Street)
    • Kowen (Bulldozer Road)
    • Kowen (Oaks Estate)
    • Mount Pleasant
    • Pialligo.

    The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but are asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Barry Drive, Monaro Highway and Parkes Way
    • mowing along Federal Highway
    • path maintenance in Campbell, Deakin, Lyneham, O'Connor and Turner
    • road resealing on Mouat Street in Lyneham and at the intersection of Jerrabomberra Avenue and Captain Cook Crescent in Narrabundah
    • street sweeping in Ainslie, Barton, Braddon, Campbell, Deakin, Dickson, Downer, Forrest, Griffith, Hackett, Kingston, Lyneham, Manuka, Narrabundah, O’Connor, Red Hill, Reid, Turner, Watson and Yarralumla.
  • Road closures:
    • Mouat Street will be closed in both directions from Northbourne Avenue to Ginninderra Drive from 7 pm to 6 am each night from Sunday 30 March until Wednesday 2 April for asphalt resurfacing.

  • Sportsgrounds: Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are closed for maintenance and will reopen on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
  • Trees: Crews will be:
    • planting 14 Pin Oaks (Quercus palustris) on Torrens Street in Braddon
    • removing failed or vandalised trees for future planting in Campbell and Narrabundah
    • responding to jobs in Fyshwick, O’Connor and Yarralumla
    • watering young trees.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Campbell
    • laneways in Ainslie, Beard, Campbell, O’Connor, Reid and Watson
    • shops in Hackett
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Yarralumla.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:

  • Beltana Road upgrade, Pialligo: Works on the project are nearing completion with 90% of the road pavement rehabilitation complete. The raised crossing at the far eastern end of Beltana Road (near Rodney’s Plants Plus) is expected to be installed soon. Temporary traffic management is in place to guide pedestrians.

Gungahlin

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves:
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program is underway with mowing in Franklin and Ngunnawal. The chemical treatment of laneways is also underway.
  • Playgrounds: Crews are topping up mulch at the playground on Spec Place in Palmerston.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Gungahlin, Crace Grasslands Reserve and Gubur Dhaura over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but are asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are:
    • litter picking on Anthony Rolfe Avenue, Kate Crace Street and Horse Park Drive
    • mowing along Old Well Station Road
    • road resealing on Redruth Street in Crace.
  • Sportsgrounds: Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are closed for maintenance and will reopen on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
  • Trees: Crews will be:
    • responding to jobs in Harrison
    • removing failed or vandalised trees for future planting in Harrison
    • watering young trees.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Amaroo, Casey, Franklin, Ngunnawal and Nicholls
    • laneways in Amaroo and Franklin
    • urban open space in Harrison.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region including:

  • Gungahlin memorial hall and condolence lounge: Construction is progressing including bulk excavation and service relocation activities. All construction activities include noise monitoring and coordination with cemetery operations to reduce impacts on staff and patrons.
  • Yerrabi Pond upgrades: Construction continues along Phyllis Ashton Circuit, Nellie Hamilton Avenue and Strayleaf Crescent adjacent to the commercial areas. Works to replace broken bollards on Phyllis Ashton Circuit are continuing.

Tuggeranong

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • From Monday 10 March to Tuesday 10 June 2025 the ACT Government is conducting the annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program targeting wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
    • Closures are continuing at Gibraltar Falls, Woods Reserve and within Namadgi National Park (Yankee Hat rock art site, Yankee Hat walking trail from Bogong Creek, Ready-Cut Cottage and a section of Square Rock walking track).
    • The showers at Woods Reserve campground are unavailable until further notice. Guests with confirmed bookings will be notified and given options for a refund and cancellation, a refund of the cost difference, or the option to move to another campsite.
    • Crews are also undertaking:
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program is underway with mowing in Calwell and Isabella Plains.
  • Playgrounds: Crews are topping up mulch at the playgrounds on Howell Place and Wrap Place in Gowrie.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program:
    • McQuoid’s Hill Nature Reserve
    • Urambi Hills
    • Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west)
    • Jerrabomberra Wetland Reserve
    • Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve
    • Googong, NSW.

    The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but are asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Monaro Highway and Tharwa Drive
    • street sweeping in Greenway.
  • Sportsgrounds: Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are closed for maintenance and will reopen on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
  • Swimming areas: Ngadyung beach, Nguru beach and Tuggeranong town park are closed for swimming due to bacteria alerts. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
  • Trees: Crews will be:
    • responding to jobs in Kambah and Wanniassa
    • planting along roadsides in Calwell and Kambah
    • planting in open space in Wanniassa
    • watering young trees.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds on:
    • laneways in Calwell, Kambah and Wanniassa
    • shops in Calwell, Chisholm and Kambah
    • urban open space in Kambah.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:

  • Glendale picnic area upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new picnic facilities such as tables and shelters at Glendale picnic area in Namadgi National Park. The work will take a few weeks to complete and the area will remain open to the public.
  • Lanyon dog park: External fencing works continue at the Lanyon dog park.
  • Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new BBQ and picnic facilities, walking tracks and an art installation at the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre. The upgrades aim to provide accessible facilities for the community to enjoy while also recognising the 2020 Orroral Valley bushfire. The Visitors Centre remains open while work is underway.
  • Sulwood drive upgrade: The majority of works are now complete on Sulwood Drive. The new left turn slip lane onto Drakeford Drive and the new walking and cycling path on the southern side of Sulwood Drive are open.

Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Murrays Corner recreation area and Bullen Pines are closed to undertake forestry operations.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program is underway with mowing in Chapman, Fisher, Rivett, Stirling and Waramanga.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Denman Prospect, Mt Taylor and Molonglo over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but are asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths:
  • Sportsgrounds: Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are closed for maintenance and will reopen on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
  • Swimming areas: Swimming areas along the Murrumbidgee River and Cotter River are open for swimming. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
  • Trees: Crews will be:
    • assisting with community planting day at Weston Creek Archery Club
    • responding to jobs in Fisher, O’Malley, Garran and Hughes
    • watering young trees.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Coombs
    • laneways in Garran, Hughes and Rivett
    • shops in Curtin and Duffy
    • urban open space in Coombs.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo region including:

  • Mawson shops toilet upgrade: The toilet refurbishment works continue. A unisex accessible toilet will remain open for use with the new toilet opening before the old one closes. The refurbished female toilets and new unisex accessible toilet are expected to open in the coming fortnight. This will mark the completion of stage 1. Stage 2 will commence immediately after stage 1 is complete.
