Clean-up efforts are continuing following the storm on Wednesday 15 January 2025. Crews are focusing on urgent removals and branch pickups which pose a safety hazard.
Staff at Domestic Animal Services are also working hard to find forever homes for dogs in their care with 8 dogs rehomed last week. There are still over 20 dogs up for adoption.
Light rail to Commonwealth Park will start construction from Wednesday 5 February 2025. Sections of London Circuit will be closed to motorists and cyclists between Northbourne Avenue and Edinburgh Avenue. See Built for CBR for more information.

Lakes and ponds: Crews have removed Azolla weed from Eardley Street ponds in Bruce and Croke Place wetlands in Evatt.
Playgrounds: The shade sails at MacDermott Place playground in Belconnen and Wanderlight Avenue playground in Lawson have been removed for repairs following storm damage. Crews will also be topping up soft fall and undertaking border repair works at Kinkead Street playground in Evatt.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Gundaroo Drive duplication: Construction of the remaining shared path under the bridge and towards Baldwin Drive has commenced and is expected to be completed in February 2025. Stormwater works are expected to be complete by the end of February 2025. Works under the bridge including building the retaining wall have commenced and will be completed in February 2025. Landscaping works are continuing, including mature tree planting. The speed limit will remain at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure the contractor’s teams remain safe while they complete these remaining works.
Evatt shops improvements: Construction is progressing well on the new accessible parking area in front of the shops. Work is also continuing on the amphitheatre and playground in the central green area. The new accessible unisex toilet which will be delivered as part of the upgrade was originally proposed to go in the landscaped area between Clancy Street and the Heydon Place car park. Following community feedback and further investigations which identified the need to remove a healthy tree, the toilet will be relocated closer to the playground. Illegal dumping: Officers have been proactively targeting illegal dumping at the rear of Griffith shopping centre.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Goliath Court stormwater improvements: The Sargood Street and Macpherson Street intersection is closed for approximately 2 weeks, weather permitting, for the installation of the raised vehicle crossing. Parking capacity will be reduced while works are underway. Access to the shops via Bluebell Street will remain open.
Garden City Cycleway: The eastbound lane of Ipima Street between Torrens Street and Limestone Avenue has reopened following a 3-week closure. This was to allow for kerbs and kerb ramps to be replaced.
Beltana Road upgrade, Pialligo: To facilitate pavement rehabilitation, night works will take place on Beltana Road from Monday 3 February 2025 to Thursday 6 February 2025 inclusive. Each night at approximately 8 pm traffic arrangements along Beltana Road will start to change to get ready for the night works. Then from 8:30 pm to 5 am temporary stop and go arrangements and single lane closures will be in place. The contractor will continue to work with business owners and the local community to minimise disruption and to complete works as quickly as possible.
Telopea Park improvements: Work is starting in the first week of February 2025 to deliver a new 95 metre long and 3 metre wide asphalt path across Telopea Park from Darling Street in Barton to Gosse Street in Kingston. Four new streetlights will also be installed along the path to increase safety and access. There will be no pedestrian access along the desire line while the new path is under construction. Signage will be in place to safely detour the community around the works.

Mowing: The seasonal mowing program is underway with mowing in Amaroo, Bonner and Forde and along Horse Park Drive.
Lakes and ponds: Crews have been removing approximately 60 tonnes (20 once dried) of floating ribbon weed has been removed from Yerrabi Pond and Gungahlin pond. They have also removed Azolla weed from Beveridge Crescent in Forde.
Playgrounds: The shade sails at Kosciuszko Avenue playground in Palmerston and Sutherland Crescent playground in Taylor have been removed for repairs due to storm damage.
Sportsgrounds: Gungahlin enclosed oval is closed for maintenance.
Trees: Crews are watering trees across Canberra, as well as cleaning up damage caused by the storm on Wednesday 15 January 2025 focusing on Gungahlin, Ngunnawal and Nicholls.
Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds on urban and open space and shrub beds in Casey and Gungahlin.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region including:
Construction is continuing on the Phyllis Ashton Circuit parking improvements. Changed traffic conditions are in place on Phyllis Ashton Circuit adjacent to the commercial area. There will be intermittent road disruptions for short periods of time along areas of Phyllis Ashton Circuit to deliver these works including the use of traffic controllers to direct and restrict flow of traffic within the commercial area. During these times, no parking will be available adjacent this area (units 64-74B).
As part of the changes, the current parking arrangements on Phyllis Ashton Circuit and Strayleaf Crescent were proposed to change to 2-hour parking, 24 hours a day. Following further conversations with key stakeholders, the proposed change has been amended to 3-hour parking, 24 hours a day to support parking turnover for businesses in the area.
Construction is also underway at Wunderlich Street, including final installation and fit out of the toilet block, garden edging and other landscaping works. Underground works and investigations are being undertaken at Bizant Street this week to install the new toilet block.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Lanyon dog park: Construction is continuing on Lanyon dog park, including drainage works and installation of a headwall to help drainage. Boulders and logs will also be delivered to the site over the next few weeks.
Insect control: Scarab beetle treatment will be carried out on irrigated ovals in Garran, Mawson, Phillip and Waramanga.

Mawson shops toilet upgrade: The first stage of the demolition of the old toilet is ongoing. To facilitate demolition works, 1-2 car parking spaces will be temporarily closed to make room for a skip bin. Path detours and signage will be in place to safely detour the community around the works. Once the demolition is complete, the first stage of refurbishment will include the construction of new female and unisex accessible toilets.
Beasley Street (Torrens shops) path improvements: Site establishment and preliminary works will commence this week for the new 34 metre long concrete path connecting the existing path beside 53 Batchelor Street to the path network along Athllon Drive.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra.
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) are inspected every fortnight
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows.
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage 73 toilets across Canberra.
Storm clean-up will continue focusing on clearing fallen material along main arterial roads.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
