The weather forecast is partly cloudy with a chance of showers which may cause some disruption to our operations.
Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds will be temporarily closed for maintenance until Monday 30 September 2024 to prepare fields for the summer sport season.
Our planned maintenance and infrastructure work for the week is outlined below. It is subject to weather and any required operational changes.
Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Charnwood, Dunlop, Flynn, Melba, Kaleen and Giralang. Mowing will also be underway along Drake Brockman Drive and Southern Cross Drive.
Roads and paths: Crews will be undertaking:
asphalt patching on O'Reilly Street and Osburn Drive in Macgregor
litter picking along Coulter Drive, Drake Brockman Drive and Southern Cross Drive
Trees: Maintenance crews are in the later stages of clean-up after the recent strong winds. Young tree care crews will be undertaking formative pruning and watering trees planted in the last 6 months.
Wasps: Preparations are continuing for the queen European wasp trapping program.
shrub beds and parklands in Cook, Dunlop, Fraser and Macquarie
laneways in Fraser, Macquarie, Dunlop, Cook, Aranda and Belconnen.
Skateparks: Belconnen skatepark half-pipe will be closed on Friday 27 September for maintenance.
Playgrounds: Bamboo elements at Kissel Close playground in Strathnairn are fenced off due to safety concerns.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region. Key updates this week include:
Lake Ginninderra path upgrade: This week we are installing a handrail on either side of the path along the retaining wall towards Ginninderra Drive. We are also preparing to concrete the path and commence landscaping. Part of the path, between Townsend Place and Lake Ginninderra College is open to the community.
Kippax Group Centre upgrades: Stormwater upgrades, new kerb and paving works are progressing at the southern end Hardwick Crescent and Luke Street. We are also commencing streetlighting works.
Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Acton, Campbell, Reid, Braddon, Oaks Estate, Fyshwick and Narrabundah. Mowing will also be underway along Majura Parkway and Majura Road.
Roads and paths: Occasional lane closures expected on Kings Avenue (both directions) for the John Gorton building carpark upgrade. Crews will also be undertaking:
path maintenance in Campbell, City, Fyshwick, Reid and Yarralumla
litter picking along Fairbairn Avenue, Lanyon Drive, Long Gully Road, Morshead Drive, Mugga Lane, Tuggeranong Parkway and Parkes Way.
Rabbit control: Rabbit control operations are underway in open space areas adjacent to Dirrawan Gardens and Geerilong Gardens in Reid. Work will mostly be carried out during the evenings and is expected to be completed in December 2024.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region. Key updates this week include:
Beltana Road upgrade, Pialligo: Construction activities for stormwater infrastructure will increase over the coming month with multiple construction sites opening at either end of Beltana Road. Temporary traffic management will be in place during construction, including retention of the one-way arrangements.
Age Friendly suburbs: Construction works are nearing completion in O’Connor on Macpherson Street (adjacent to the shops) and at the intersection of Hart Street and Tate Street. Two new bench seats are expected to be installed in Geerilong Gardens in Reid.
Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Casey and Franklin. Mowing will also be underway along Gungahlin Drive, Clarrie Hermes Drive, Curran Drive and Barton Highway.
Roads and paths: Crews will be undertaking:
asphalt patching on Ida West Street and Lucy Beeton Crescent in Bonner
litter picking along Randwick Road, Clarrie Hermes Drive, Curran Drive and Barton Highway.
Trees: Maintenance crews are in the later stages of clean-up after the recent strong winds. Young tree care crews will be undertaking formative pruning and watering trees planted in the last 6 months. Crews will also be planting in Taylor, Forde, Nicholls and Bonner.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region. Key updates this week include:
Yerrabi Pond park upgrades: This week we are commencing crane works on the remaining roof structure at the amenities facility. On Monday 23 September 2023 the Wunderlich Street carpark will remain partially closed to accommodate the crane works.
Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Greenway, Macarthur and Fadden. Mowing will also be underway along Drakeford Drive.
Trees: Maintenance crews are in the later stages of clean-up after the recent strong winds. Young tree care crews will be undertaking formative pruning and watering trees planted in the last 6 months. Crews will also be planting in Gordon and Monash.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region. Key updates this week include:
Gordon playground: The Maliyan nest play area is nearing completion and is expected to open soon.
Monaro Highway upgrade: Construction is underway on the Lanyon Drive flyover. Pavement widening is continuing on the median adjacent to the northbound carriageway near Lanyon Drive. Clearing is underway adjacent to the southbound carriageway south of Lanyon Drive.
Tharwa Drive improvements: The construction contract has been awarded. Works are expected to commence on site later this month and there will be temporary changed traffic arrangements.
Sulwood Drive upgrade: Sulwood Drive has reopened. Works are continuing on the shared user path until early 2025, with speed restrictions likely to remain in place.
Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Curtin, Lyons, Pearce, Chifley and Phillip.
Bridge maintenance: Occasional lane closures weekdays from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm on Perry Drive between Musgrove Street and Heath Place until Monday 23 September with reduced speed limit in place.

Athllon Drive duplication:Works will commence soon for enabling works on the southern section of Athllon Drive. Site establishment has commenced with land use approvals underway. Works are expected to commence in the next month.
Molonglo River Bridge: Works are continuing on the pedestrian bridges and stormwater installation on the south side of the river.
Woden Bus Depot: Works are progressing well on the intersection upgrade with temporary traffic management arrangements in place. This week we are continuing works on the streetlights, excavating the southbound lane verge and installing drainage.

General maintenance
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra.
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) are inspected every fortnight
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows.
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage 73 toilets across Canberra.
Storm clean-up will continue focusing on clearing fallen material along main arterial roads.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
Fix My Street reports of death cap mushrooms growing on public land are investigated and removed as needed.
