Our planned maintenance and infrastructure work for the week is outlined below. It is subject to weather and any required operational changes.

Key updates in your region this week

Belconnen

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Insect control: Crews are continuing the European wasp trapping program.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Flynn, Kaleen, Latham and Lawson.
  • Roads and paths: Crews will be undertaking:
    • asphalt patching on Belconnen Way and on the Ginninderra Drive ramp to Gungahlin Drive in Bruce, Coulter Drive in Cook and on Moynihan Street and Freehill Street in Evatt
    • road resealing on:
      • Beaurepaire Crescent, Davison Place, Moyes Crescent, Nevile Place and Giffen Close in Holt
      • Stumm Place in Latham
      • Mollisson Street, Petre Street and Keith Street in Scullin
    • litter picking along College Street, Ginninderra Drive and Haydon Drive
    • path maintenance in Evatt and Giralang.
  • Trees: Watering of young trees has increased across Canberra with continued warm, dry, windy conditions. Crews will also be:
    • planting trees in Higgins and Macquarie
    • pruning trees in Aranda and Cook
    • removing trees in Giralang.
  • Weeds: Crews will be spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Cook, Evatt, Kaleen and McKellar
    • playgrounds, shrub beds and urban open space in Charnwood, Evatt, Melba and Weetangera.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region. Key updates this week include:

  • Kippax Group Centre upgrades: Tree and shrub planting is underway along Hardwick Crescent. Construction works are progressing on Luke Street and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
  • Gundaroo Drive duplication: Work is continuing on Gundaroo Drive between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive. Works continue on paving, asphalting, kerbing, stormwater and landscaping. Single lanes on the bridge are now operational. While work is being finalised at the Owen Dixon Drive intersection there is no right turn access from Gundaroo Drive onto Owen Dixon Drive and from Owen Dixon Drive onto Gundaroo Drive. Central Canberra

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Insect control: Crews will be spraying irrigated turf in Ainslie, City, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, O'Connor and Reid to control scarab beetles. The European wasp trapping program is also continuing.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing along Adelaide Avenue.
  • Roads and paths: Occasional lane closures will continue at Parkes on Kings Avenue (near Blackall Street) for the John Gorton building carpark upgrade. Temporary road closures will be in place near the lake on Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November 2024 for the Challenge Triathlon. More information on the National Capital Authority website.
  • Crews will also be undertaking:
    • asphalt patching on Brigalow Street in Lyneham
    • guard rail repairs southbound on the Majura Parkway (near Federal Highway) and in both directions on Sutton Road (near Pialligo Avenue). Occasional lane closures will be in place on Monday 18 November 2024 from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.
    • road resealing on Empire Circuit in Forrest and on Majura Road
    • litter picking along Barry Drive, Bowen Drive, Canberra Avenue, Fairbairn Avenue, Pialligo Avenue and Wentworth Avenue
    • maintenance grading work on Underwood Street and Woods Lane at Harman
    • path maintenance in Campbell, Griffith, Narrabundah and Red Hill.
  • Rabbit control: Rabbit control operations are underway at:
    • City Hill, Grevillea Park and RSL Park until December 2024
    • Ainslie adjacent to Baker Gardens and Corroboree Park
    • Dickson adjacent to Dickson Wetlands, Dickson District Playing Fields and along the stormwater channel
    • Reid adjacent to Dirrawan Gardens and Geerilong Gardens.
  • Trees: Watering of young trees has increased across Canberra with continued warm, dry, windy conditions. Crews will also be:
    • planting trees in Braddon, Downer, Fyshwick and Yarralumla
    • pruning trees in Ainslie, Deakin, Downer, Hackett, Red Hill and Narrabundah
    • removing trees along Dominion Circuit in Forrest.
  • Weeds: Crews will be spraying weeds on:
    • arterial and collector roads in Ainslie, Braddon, Deakin, Dickson, Turner, Yarralumla and along Barton Highway
    • playgrounds, shrub beds and urban open space in Braddon, Deakin, Watson and Yarralumla.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region. Key updates this week include:

  • Garden City Cycleway:
    • There will be intermittent single lane closures on Ipima Street from on Monday 18 November 2024 for approximately 6 weeks. This includes eastbound and westbound lanes. The closures are required to allow construction of pram ramps, lighting, stormwater and kerb adjustments
    • The Limestone Avenue/Angas Street/Ijong Street intersection remains closed on the side streets and in the median until the new traffic lights are installed. There is no access between Ijong Street/Angas Street and Limestone Avenue.
    • Construction continues along Angas Street for Stage 1C. Site fencing and a site compound has been installed.
  • Beltana Road upgrade, Pialligo: To facilitate the final road rehabilitation works, from Monday 25 November 2024 for approximately 6 nights (weather permitting) there will be temporary stop and go arrangements and lane closures on Beltana Road. These works will be carried out as night works between 10 pm and 5 am.

Gungahlin

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Insect control: Crews are continuing the European wasp trapping program.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Nicholls and Taylor.
  • Parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve and periodic closures remain in place at Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve for rabbit control operations.
  • Roads and paths: Crews will be undertaking:
    • litter picking along Gundaroo Drive, Mulligans Flat Road and Nudurr Drive
    • bridge maintenance at Yerrabi Pond.
  • Rabbit control: Rabbit control operations are underway in open spaces in:
    • Bonner adjacent to Djerrkura Street and Ida West Street
    • Forde bordering Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve and near Max Purnell Street, Zakharov Pond and the Lyall Gillespie Corridor
    • Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve
    • Harrison adjacent to Collaroy Street, Harrison District Playing Fields, Mullion Park, Nullarbor Avenue, Well Station Park and Well Station Drive
    • Ngunnawal adjacent to Ngunnawal Hill Reserve from Gungahlin Drive to Marungul Avenue
    • Nicholls adjacent to Gold Creek Primary and High Schools, Holy Spirit Primary School, St John Paul II College and Nicholls District Playing Fields.
  • Trees: Watering of young trees has increased across Canberra with continued warm, dry, windy conditions. Crews will also be pruning trees in Gungahlin and removing trees at Mullion Park in Harrison.
  • Weeds: Crews will be spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Mitchell
    • playgrounds, shrub beds and urban open space in Harrison, Ngunnawal and Throsby.

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region. Key updates this week include:

Tuggeranong

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Insect control: Crews are continuing the European wasp trapping program.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Conder and Kambah. Mowing will also be underway along Athllon Drive, Johnson Drive, Tharwa Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway.
  • Parks and reserves: To protect the Peregrine Falcon temporary closures remain in place at Kambah Pool, Murrumbidgee River Corridor and Pine Island. Closures also continue at Gibraltar Falls and Woods Reserve. There are a number of closures within Namadgi National Park, such as Yankee Hat rock art site, Yankee Hat walking trail from Bogong Creek and part of Mr Franklin Road from Bulls Head Recreational Area to Mt Ginini Carpark plus the Ready-Cut Cottage.
  • Roads and paths: Occasional road closures expected weekdays 7 am to 5 pm on Mount Franklin Road (from Bulls Head gate to Mount Ginini) and sections of Bendora Road and Mountain Creek Road for maintenance work. Crews will also be undertaking: 
    • asphalt patching in rural areas on Brindabella Road and Uriarra Road
    • litter picking along Monaro Highway
    • guard rail repair work in the rural area on Smiths Road
    • street sweeping in Banks, Conder, Gordon and Tharwa.
  • Trees: Watering of young trees has increased across Canberra with continued warm, dry, windy conditions. Crews will also be:
    • cleaning up storm damage around Calwell shops and Wanniassa
    • pruning trees in Richardson, Theodore and Wanniassa, as well as at bus stops on Ellerston Avenue in Isabella Plains.
  • Weeds: Crews will be spraying weeds at playgrounds, shrub beds and urban open space in Bonython, Calwell, Conder, Greenway, Kambah, Theodore and Wanniassa.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region. Key updates this week include:

  • Mugga Lane landfill: The landfill gas plant operator has commenced trenching works as part of routine operations. The works include digging a shallow trench and laying piping. For more information see Mugga Lane landfill gas-to-energy.
  • Monaro Highway upgrade: Construction of the Lanyon Drive flyover is underway. Pavement widening is also continuing in the median adjacent to the northbound and southbound carriageway.
  • Tharwa Drive improvements: Works are progressing on the roundabout and new traffic islands. Traffic arrangements remain in place such as the stop and go arrangements along Tharwa Drive and the road closure at the Tharwa Drive and Norman Lindsay Street intersection on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. A weekend road closure will be in place from 7 pm on Friday 29 November to 7  am on Sunday 1 December 2024, weather permitting.
  • Sulwood Drive upgrade: The installation of path lighting is underway between Drakeford Drive and Athllon Drive. The path is expected to open to the community in early 2025, weather permitting.
  • Athllon Drive duplication: Enabling works are underway and involve upgrading the walking and cycling path on the northern side of Athllon Drive, between Sulwood Drive and Atkins Street. Additional packages of enabling works including new path connections, missing links, path lighting and utility service relocations will commence in the coming months. Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Insect control: Crews are continuing the European wasp trapping program.
  • Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Chapman, Chifley, Pearce and Stirling. Mowing will also be underway along Hindmarsh Drive, Yamba Drive and Yarra Glen.
  • Parks and reserves: Temporary closures remain in place in sections of Cotter Pines Mountain Bike Trails and Bullen Range Road in the Bullen Range Nature Reserve. Access to Namarag Reserve is via Thancoupie Crescent during the Molonglo River Bridge construction works.
  • Roads and paths: Crews will be undertaking:
    • asphalt patching on Yamba Drive in Isaacs
    • litter picking along Athllon Drive, Streeton Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway.
  • Trees: Watering of young trees has increased across Canberra with continued warm, dry, windy conditions. Crews will also be:
    • re-mulching, removing stake and pruning young trees in Coombs
    • planting trees in Coombs.
  • Weeds: Crews will be spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Coombs, Denman Prospect and Wright
    • playgrounds, shrub beds and urban open space in O'Malley.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo region. Key updates this week include:

  • Woden Bus Depot: Work is nearing completion for the Shea Street intersection upgrade which will accommodate the entry to the Woden Bus Depot. Localised traffic speed restrictions and periodic stop/go arrangements are in place to allow works to progress.
  • Molonglo River Bridge: Works are continuing on the piers on both sides of the river, with more concreting scheduled to occur this week.
