Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region. Key updates this week include:
Kippax Group Centre upgrades: Tree and shrub planting is underway along Hardwick Crescent. Construction works are progressing on Luke Street and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Gundaroo Drive duplication: Work is continuing on Gundaroo Drive between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive. Works continue on paving, asphalting, kerbing, stormwater and landscaping. Single lanes on the bridge are now operational. While work is being finalised at the Owen Dixon Drive intersection there is no right turn access from Gundaroo Drive onto Owen Dixon Drive and from Owen Dixon Drive onto Gundaroo Drive. Insect control: Crews will be spraying irrigated turf in Ainslie, City, Dickson, Downer, Hackett, O'Connor and Reid to control scarab beetles. The European wasp trapping program is also continuing.

Roads and paths: Occasional lane closures will continue at Parkes on Kings Avenue (near Blackall Street) for the John Gorton building carpark upgrade. Temporary road closures will be in place near the lake on Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November 2024 for the Challenge Triathlon. More information on the National Capital Authority website.

There will be intermittent single lane closures on Ipima Street from on Monday 18 November 2024 for approximately 6 weeks. This includes eastbound and westbound lanes. The closures are required to allow construction of pram ramps, lighting, stormwater and kerb adjustments
The Limestone Avenue/Angas Street/Ijong Street intersection remains closed on the side streets and in the median until the new traffic lights are installed. There is no access between Ijong Street/Angas Street and Limestone Avenue.
Construction continues along Angas Street for Stage 1C. Site fencing and a site compound has been installed.
Beltana Road upgrade, Pialligo: To facilitate the final road rehabilitation works, from Monday 25 November 2024 for approximately 6 nights (weather permitting) there will be temporary stop and go arrangements and lane closures on Beltana Road. These works will be carried out as night works between 10 pm and 5 am.
Harrison adjacent to Collaroy Street, Harrison District Playing Fields, Mullion Park, Nullarbor Avenue, Well Station Park and Well Station Drive
Ngunnawal adjacent to Ngunnawal Hill Reserve from Gungahlin Drive to Marungul Avenue

Trees: Watering of young trees has increased across Canberra with continued warm, dry, windy conditions. Crews will also be pruning trees in Gungahlin and removing trees at Mullion Park in Harrison.

Yerrabi Pond District Park upgrades: Construction is being undertaken for amenities improvements adjacent to Wunderlich Street and Bizant Street. Three new picnic settings have been installed on Strayleaf Crescent.

cleaning up storm damage around Calwell shops and Wanniassa
pruning trees in Richardson, Theodore and Wanniassa, as well as at bus stops on Ellerston Avenue in Isabella Plains.
Weeds: Crews will be spraying weeds at playgrounds, shrub beds and urban open space in Bonython, Calwell, Conder, Greenway, Kambah, Theodore and Wanniassa.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region. Key updates this week include:
Mugga Lane landfill: The landfill gas plant operator has commenced trenching works as part of routine operations. The works include digging a shallow trench and laying piping. For more information see Mugga Lane landfill gas-to-energy.
Monaro Highway upgrade: Construction of the Lanyon Drive flyover is underway. Pavement widening is also continuing in the median adjacent to the northbound and southbound carriageway.
Tharwa Drive improvements: Works are progressing on the roundabout and new traffic islands. Traffic arrangements remain in place such as the stop and go arrangements along Tharwa Drive and the road closure at the Tharwa Drive and Norman Lindsay Street intersection on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. A weekend road closure will be in place from 7 pm on Friday 29 November to 7 am on Sunday 1 December 2024, weather permitting.
Sulwood Drive upgrade: The installation of path lighting is underway between Drakeford Drive and Athllon Drive. The path is expected to open to the community in early 2025, weather permitting.
Athllon Drive duplication: Enabling works are underway and involve upgrading the walking and cycling path on the northern side of Athllon Drive, between Sulwood Drive and Atkins Street. Additional packages of enabling works including new path connections, missing links, path lighting and utility service relocations will commence in the coming months. To facilitate the first package of works there will be two stages of path detours. You can find maps of these detours on the project page.

Mowing: The seasonal mowing program for suburbs and areas of open space is underway with mowing in Chapman, Chifley, Pearce and Stirling. Mowing will also be underway along Hindmarsh Drive, Yamba Drive and Yarra Glen.
Parks and reserves: Temporary closures remain in place in sections of Cotter Pines Mountain Bike Trails and Bullen Range Road in the Bullen Range Nature Reserve. Access to Namarag Reserve is via Thancoupie Crescent during the Molonglo River Bridge construction works.
Woden Bus Depot: Work is nearing completion for the Shea Street intersection upgrade which will accommodate the entry to the Woden Bus Depot. Localised traffic speed restrictions and periodic stop/go arrangements are in place to allow works to progress.
Molonglo River Bridge: Works are continuing on the piers on both sides of the river, with more concreting scheduled to occur this week.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra.
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) are inspected every fortnight
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows.
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage 73 toilets across Canberra.
Storm clean-up will continue focusing on clearing fallen material along main arterial roads.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
