The weather forecast this week is partly cloudy with the chance of showers. Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.

Belconnen

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Bin collections: Household bin collections in Charnwood move to Wednesdays this week. There are no changes for any other suburbs.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway at Lake Ginninderra and Margaret Timpson Park.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • guard rail repair work on Gungahlin Drive, Caswell Drive, Ginninderra Drive and Barton Highway with occasional lane closures from 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays
    • litter picking on William Hovell Drive
    • path maintenance in Evatt and Spence.
  • Swimming areas: Bimbi and Bargang beaches on Lake Ginninderra are closed for swimming due to bacteria alerts. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
  • Trees: Crews are watering trees across Canberra and undertaking maintenance in Macgregor.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds on Barton Highway and at:
    • laneways in Melba
    • underpasses in Giralang
    • urban open space, playgrounds and shrub beds in Belconnen, Bruce and Weetangera.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:

  • Macquarie shops improvements: The area around the drinking fountain will remain fenced off until the water is connected.
  • Gundaroo Drive duplication: The new section of shared path between Owen Dixon Drive and Baldwin Drive (including underpasses) remains closed while landscaping works are completed. The southbound left turning lane on to Baldwin Drive is complete and open to traffic. The contractor is reducing the site compound area and rehabilitating the area. Landscaping including tree and shrub planting is underway. The speed limit remains at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure worker safety.

Central Canberra

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Chemical treatment of Blackberry and St John’s Wort is taking place at Red Hill. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at O'Connor Ridge and Lyneham Ridge for serrated tussock. The team is also following up on myrtle rust found at the National Museum.
  • Horticultural maintenance: Crews will be undertaking maintenance at Dickson wetlands, Griffith shops, Lyneham, O’Connor and Watson. Bamboo will also be removed in Watson.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway at Campbell 5, Glebe Park, Henry Rolland Park, Weston Park, Monaro Highway, Morshead Drive and in the City.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: Black Mountain, O’Connor Ridge, Kowen (Bulldozer Road), Kowen (Oaks Estate), Mount Pleasant and Pialligo. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Rabbit control: Work in open space areas is expected to commence in Symonston (weather permitting).
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Adelaide Avenue, Cotter Road, Lady Denman Drive, Parkes Way and Pialligo Avenue
    • guard rail repair work on Antill Street, Monaro Highway and Majura Parkway with occasional lane closures from 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays
    • road resurfacing on Cunningham Street in Kingston and on McIntyre Street in Narrabundah
    • street sweeping in Ainslie, Barton, Braddon, Campbell, Deakin, Dickson, Downer, Forrest, Griffith, Hackett, Kingston, Lyneham, Manuka, Narrabundah, O’Connor, Red Hill, Reid, Turner, Watson and Yarralumla
    • path maintenance in Ainslie, Deakin, Dickson, Griffith, Narrabundah, O’Connor, Red Hill, Reid and Turner.
  • Road closures: See the light rail and London Circuit construction map for information about road closures in the city.
  • Trees: Crews are:
    • undertaking maintenance in Ainslie, Hackett, Watson and Yarralumla
    • pruning on the Watson side of the Federal Highway
    • watering trees across Canberra.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • Antill Street, Cowper Street, Fairbairn Avenue, Limestone Avenue, Majura Avenue, Mouat Street and Phillip Avenue
    • underpasses in Red Hill
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Campbell, Kingston and O’Connor.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:

  • Garden City Cycleway: Work on the Garden City Cycleway continues along Angas Street with temporary traffic management arrangements in place.
  • Narrabundah shops improvements: The area around the drinking fountain will remain fenced off until the water is connected. Once the water connection is in place, the water fountain will be installed, and the surrounding paving and landscaping will be completed.

Gungahlin

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve. Crews will also be undertaking vegetation management works to improve access along management trails at Little Mulligans in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at Mitchell near Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve for serrated tussock.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in Bonner and Taylor.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Gungahlin, Crace Grasslands Reserve and Gubur Dhaura over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Horse Park Drive
    • guard rail repair work on Horse Park Drive, Curran Drive and Kelleway Avenue with occasional lane closures from 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays
    • road resurfacing at the Redruth Street and Vandyke Street roundabout at Crace
  • Trees: Crews are:
    • pruning in Crace, Gungahlin and Nicholls
    • removing tree trunks in Palmerston
    • watering trees across Canberra.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • underpasses in Ngunnawal and Nicholls
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Casey, Nicholls and Palmerston.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region including:

  • Yerrabi Pond upgrades: Car park improvements are continuing with the replacement of broken bollards and line marking at the eastern end of Phyllis Ashton Circuit. Works are expected to be completed by end of May 2025.

Tuggeranong

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Tuesday 10 June 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
    • Closures are continuing at Gibraltar Falls, Woods Reserve and within Namadgi National Park (Yankee Hat rock art site, Yankee Hat walking trail from Bogong Creek, Ready-Cut Cottage and a section of Square Rock walking track).
    • A section of Paddys River Road, near the Deep Space Tracking Station, has one lane closed until further notice for construction upgrades. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place. Completion of these works is anticipated by July 2025.
    • The showers at Woods Reserve campground are unavailable until further notice. Guests with confirmed bookings will be notified and given options for a refund and cancellation, a refund of the cost difference, or the option to move to another campsite.
    • Crews are also undertaking:
      • in the rural area, grading work on Smith's Road and also on Angle Crossing Road is planned
      • pest management to remove a feral goat population in Rob Roy Nature Reserve with the reserve remaining open and no impact to recreational use
      • removal of a feral pig population in Issacs Ridge
      • removal of a rabbit population in Orroral Valley in Namadgi National Park
      • storm damage repair work on Grassy Creek Fire Trail and Middle Creek crossing in Namadgi National Park
      • roadside vegetation treatment on Corin Road from Square Rock car park to Corin Dam
      • blackberry surveillance undertaken in Hume and Tuggeranong Stone Wall
      • monitoring endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Murrumbidgee and Paddys River corridors.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in Gordon and Monash.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve, Urambi Hills, Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), Jerrabomberra Wetland Reserve, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Googong, NSW. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking litter picking on Isabella Drive and Woodcock Drive.
  • Swimming areas: Tuggeranong town park is closed for swimming due to a bacteria alert. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
  • Trees: Crews are watering trees across Canberra and undertaking maintenance in Kambah and Wanniassa.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • underpasses in Richardson and Theodore
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Richardson.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:

  • Monaro Highway: Earthworks and pavement widening for the median of both carriageways and construction of the main flyover bridge is ongoing. Preparation continues for the upcoming changed northbound traffic alignment at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive.
  • Sulwood Drive upgrade: The Mount Taylor car park has temporarily re-opened. Sections of the car park will temporarily close from Monday 28 April while line marking is underway.

Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Murrays Corner recreation area and Bullen Pines are closed to undertake forestry operations. Ecologists are monitoring populations of endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Molonglo River corridors. They are also conducting rapid assessments of riparian areas on rural leases and reserves across the western boundary of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek. Boot wash stations will be serviced at Corin Dam and broom control will be conducted at Corin Forest.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in Eddison Park, Farrer, Fisher, Mawson, Stirling and Waramanga.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Denman Prospect, Mount Taylor and Molonglo over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths:
    • asphalting and line marking at the Streeton Drive and Heysen Street intersection with a lane closure in place on Thursday 1 May and Friday 2 May 2025
    • litter picking on Cotter Road and Streeton Drive
    • Melrose Drive underpass repair work is nearing completion with southbound lanes now open
    • repairs are continuing on Darwinia Terrace in Rivett.
  • Swimming areas: Most swimming areas along the Murrumbidgee River and Cotter River are open for swimming. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
  • Trees: Crews are:
    • undertaking maintenance in Isaacs, Garran and O’Malley
    • planting trees across the region, focussing on Whitlam
    • watering trees across Canberra.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • underpasses in Farrer and Holder
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Farrer.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo region including:

  • Molonglo River Bridge: From 5 am on Monday 28 April 2025, Coppins Crossing Road will be closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue. This closure is expected to be in place for 3 weeks until 6 pm on Saturday 17 May 2025.
  • Mount Taylor Nature Reserve car park: The car park is closed until 30 April 2025 for construction upgrades. The reserve will remain open. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place.
