General updates
Anzac Day closures: Domestic Animal Services and Access Canberra Service Centres and Specialised Centres will be closed on Friday 25 April 2025. Household bin collections will continue as usual. See public holiday impacts for more information.
Election signage: Movable signs must be placed in accordance with the Code of Practice for Movable Signs. Compliance officers are proactively targeting movable signs and will take appropriate action when non-compliant signage is identified. Penalties apply.
Libraries: Lift replacement works are underway at Belconnen, Tuggeranong and Woden libraries. Please note libraries are closed on Friday 25 April 2025 but return chutes remain open.
Public transport: An improved bus timetable featuring more peak and school services commences Monday 28 April 2025.
Coppins Crossing Road closure: From 5 am on Monday 28 April 2025, Coppins Crossing Road will be closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue. This closure is expected to be in place for 3 weeks until 6 pm on Saturday 17 May 2025.
Bin collections: Household bin collections in Charnwood move to Wednesdays this week. There are no changes for any other suburbs.
Mowing: Mowing is underway at Lake Ginninderra and Margaret Timpson Park.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
guard rail repair work on Gungahlin Drive, Caswell Drive, Ginninderra Drive and Barton Highway with occasional lane closures from 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays
Swimming areas: Bimbi and Bargang beaches on Lake Ginninderra are closed for swimming due to bacteria alerts. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
Trees: Crews are watering trees across Canberra and undertaking maintenance in Macgregor.
Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds on Barton Highway and at:

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Macquarie shops improvements: The area around the drinking fountain will remain fenced off until the water is connected.
Gundaroo Drive duplication: The new section of shared path between Owen Dixon Drive and Baldwin Drive (including underpasses) remains closed while landscaping works are completed. The southbound left turning lane on to Baldwin Drive is complete and open to traffic. The contractor is reducing the site compound area and rehabilitating the area. Landscaping including tree and shrub planting is underway. The speed limit remains at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure worker safety.
ACT parks and reserves: Chemical treatment of Blackberry and St John’s Wort is taking place at Red Hill. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at O'Connor Ridge and Lyneham Ridge for serrated tussock. The team is also following up on myrtle rust found at the National Museum.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews will be undertaking maintenance at Dickson wetlands, Griffith shops, Lyneham, O’Connor and Watson. Bamboo will also be removed in Watson.
Mowing: Mowing is underway at Campbell 5, Glebe Park, Henry Rolland Park, Weston Park, Monaro Highway, Morshead Drive and in the City.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: Black Mountain, O’Connor Ridge, Kowen (Bulldozer Road), Kowen (Oaks Estate), Mount Pleasant and Pialligo. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Rabbit control: Work in open space areas is expected to commence in Symonston (weather permitting).

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Garden City Cycleway: Work on the Garden City Cycleway continues along Angas Street with temporary traffic management arrangements in place.
Narrabundah shops improvements: The area around the drinking fountain will remain fenced off until the water is connected. Once the water connection is in place, the water fountain will be installed, and the surrounding paving and landscaping will be completed.
ACT parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve. Crews will also be undertaking vegetation management works to improve access along management trails at Little Mulligans in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at Mitchell near Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve for serrated tussock.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Gungahlin, Crace Grasslands Reserve and Gubur Dhaura over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region including:
Yerrabi Pond upgrades: Car park improvements are continuing with the replacement of broken bollards and line marking at the eastern end of Phyllis Ashton Circuit. Works are expected to be completed by end of May 2025.
The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Tuesday 10 June 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
A section of Paddys River Road, near the Deep Space Tracking Station, has one lane closed until further notice for construction upgrades. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place. Completion of these works is anticipated by July 2025.
The showers at Woods Reserve campground are unavailable until further notice. Guests with confirmed bookings will be notified and given options for a refund and cancellation, a refund of the cost difference, or the option to move to another campsite.
Crews are also undertaking:
in the rural area, grading work on Smith's Road and also on Angle Crossing Road is planned
pest management to remove a feral goat population in Rob Roy Nature Reserve with the reserve remaining open and no impact to recreational use
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve, Urambi Hills, Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), Jerrabomberra Wetland Reserve, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Googong, NSW. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking litter picking on Isabella Drive and Woodcock Drive.
Swimming areas: Tuggeranong town park is closed for swimming due to a bacteria alert. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
Trees: Crews are watering trees across Canberra and undertaking maintenance in Kambah and Wanniassa.
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway: Earthworks and pavement widening for the median of both carriageways and construction of the main flyover bridge is ongoing. Preparation continues for the upcoming changed northbound traffic alignment at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive.
Sulwood Drive upgrade: The Mount Taylor car park has temporarily re-opened. Sections of the car park will temporarily close from Monday 28 April while line marking is underway.
ACT parks and reserves: Murrays Corner recreation area and Bullen Pines are closed to undertake forestry operations. Ecologists are monitoring populations of endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Molonglo River corridors. They are also conducting rapid assessments of riparian areas on rural leases and reserves across the western boundary of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek. Boot wash stations will be serviced at Corin Dam and broom control will be conducted at Corin Forest.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Eddison Park, Farrer, Fisher, Mawson, Stirling and Waramanga.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Denman Prospect, Mount Taylor and Molonglo over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Molonglo River Bridge: From 5 am on Monday 28 April 2025, Coppins Crossing Road will be closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue. This closure is expected to be in place for 3 weeks until 6 pm on Saturday 17 May 2025.
Mount Taylor Nature Reserve car park: The car park is closed until 30 April 2025 for construction upgrades. The reserve will remain open. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra.
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) are inspected every fortnight
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows.
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage 73 toilets across Canberra.
Storm clean-up will continue focusing on clearing fallen material along main arterial roads.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
